THE WOMAN OF ALL TIME HAIRDRESSING AND EMPOWERING WOMEN TO HAVE A VOICE- LUCY WEISIKO

She is a Timeless wonder woman, powerful with a great sense of agency, passionate about empowering women to find their sense of agency and voice. An entrepreneur who does not regret one bit pursuing her passion for beautifying people’s hair luxuriously.

You may tread her down the very dirt, but still like the air she rises. She has overcome great odds to become the super businesswomen she is, using her voice to empower fellow women.

Lucy Weisiko is the owner of Embracing African Hair, a mobile Hairdressing salon.  She goes to the clients in the comfort of their homes. She knows that the clients' greatest luxury is to be hair dressed in their homes and so she crosses from one end of the city to another with her salon.

Why Embracing African Hair you ask? She says,

For the longest time, African ladies have been taught to believe that their hair isn't the best, hard to manage and if it is not straightened then it is unkempt, that is a lie. Our hair is the best and very unique. Amongst the 4 types of hair that we have, ours(kinky)Is the only hair that shrinks and can be styled in so many styles. I am teaching women to love and appreciate their African Hair and be able to wear it without subjecting it to heat.

She started her business after years of job trekking, Lucy would turn to her talent and passion. Since she enjoyed making her friends' hair and she was good at it, she went straight for it, without any capital.

Her first client to actually pay for her services was a neighbor who paid her 500/-. She still remembers that day in April  2017. She even took a photo of her hair, and posted it on Facebook for the world to see. Every entrepreneur knows too well the value of the first client who opens up the floodgates of blessings.

After posting the picture she stated she was open to making hair. She was pleased with the overwhelmingly positive response and she continued to build her expertise over years.

She says, “I currently deal with artificial locs. This is a style that can last someone for 1-year plus. All they need to do is create for themselves a good healthy hair care routine and manage their hair consistently.”.

Besides this business, she also sells other products online and runs a CBO and an initiative that empowers young girls and women by amplifying and advocating for their rights.

She says, “Being self-employed helps me navigate in all the things I do because I am not limited.i am able to plan myself and work within my timeline.

In spite of some of the disadvantages that come with self-employment, such as the lack of guarantee, she notes that taking the step has been worth it. She stays committed to marketing intensely on social media, whassup statues where she gets most of her clients, whom she is entirely grateful, and especially those who are always referring as well.
