Waiting in line is a common practice in our lives.  Waiting for our turn.  But,  You know sometimes, , 'ngoja ngoja huumiza matumbo.' Though they say great things come to those that wait,  sometimes those that come are the remainders, and sometimes nothing at all. Being proactive means deliberately going for the things you wish for. Knocking on doors long enough until they open. I Remember my mum taking me to an audition someday. She noticed the queue was long until outside the gate.  Auditions could have hundreds of us waiting in line to be picked.  I remember,  she said,  aren't the people auditioning you,  just like you? Why don't you find out,  what it takes to do this yourself? It hit me on another level when I attended one where people who had barely graduated were auditioning. Sometimes you have to choose yourself,  promote yourself,  cheer yourself on,  beat your own drums, and dance to your tune,  and along t...

A conversation with Nafula Kisiangani , the Executive Director of Ubuntu Development Solutions, will have you thinking about what have you been doing with your life. How have you been running without systems or policies in your business? How do you not have books in your organization? Nafula Kisiangani, Executive Director Of Ubuntu during a visit By USAID executives to her organization Last week, I was so excited to be part of the delegation that went to visit her at her office. She speaks of disorganized passion and how much many of us are solving non-problems and we are passionate and yet unprofitable, and this leads to frustration and mental health issues. I totally relate to this infinite suffering earlier on. Many of us have been victims of high disorganization due to lacking structures. Our businesses are as casual as they can get and yet we celebrate our own madness. Nafula Kisiangani supports of organizations, individuals & young people to convert their passions into sustai...

Image
ENTREPRENEUR OF THE WEEK "Every now and then a generation is called upon to be great. You can be that great generation." Nelson Mandela said, perhaps he meant this generation. Today's entrepreneur are young, energetic and full of ideas. Young people are going for great pursuits without fear of limitation. Either due to circumstances or seeing great young entrepreneurs, these young entrepreneurs are not afraid to dream. Indeed, that is the story of young leaders like Zack and the many entrepreneurs dreaming great dreams and not just dreaming them, but taking the next step of implementing these big ideas. Zachuas Okonjo is a man of not so many words, but many visions. He is a man of what he himself calls crazy ideas always. But beyond just having visions that flow like a river, he is a true implementor, man of his words. Mr Okonji trusts his madness, which led him to start a village school. His dream was to have a school that would serve 300 poor children. That is where...

A wise one said, “The best way to predict the future is to create it”. This is the tale of the Kenyan young folks who either by choice or by circumstance have opted to create a present that defines the future of self-employment and consultancy work. Today, in history there are more and more young CEOs, unlike the previous decades where the entry to entrepreneurship was people in their forty’s or retirees in their fifties, today’s young CEOs are young, dynamic, flexible, and extra creative having an early start. Figuring their lives at a very young age without prior experience has brought out young genius who are both impressive and bold. This allows them, to bring in something new to the table, perhaps never been seen, never been heard. This can be seen from the Tiktok moves that have promoted so many young business and enhanced wide reach. Mr Anthony, a young entrepreneur has never received a salary in his life, he managed to turn his passion for profit in the year 2016 and has never ...

Elephants crossing a tumultuous river in Samburu. It is flooding, it’s heavy and the mother elephant is faced with a decision to cross or not to cross.   After so much thought, she crosses the treacherous rivers following the herd.   She begins to cross the river and the more she goes in, the harder the river flows. The little cub loses his grip and she tries to hold the cub with her trunk, but the water keeps pushing. This is the same river with crocodiles and many predators who wait for cubs like this. They are still far from the end, and if she is not careful she may loose her cub whose pregnancy she carried for two years.   It isn’t long before the herd notices that she tries to save the little cub who is now already tired. Together they come back to the rescue with each the herd now standing on either side of the cub to block the angry river currents.  It is the most beautiful sight to watch as the cub arrives gracefully at the end of the river. Though tired, tr...
