#DEMYSTIFYINGENTRENEURSHIP #26 BACK TO WHERE WE LEFT
Esther Neema in Mombasa |
So, I am in the midst of having the time of my
life in my entire brief Career. My days are made of merry. Shoots at beautiful spaces
that make me feel touristic half the time. Cruz dinners
of course non-existent in Nairobi, Feasting on Chapatis and maharagwe ya nazi DAILY and Biriani on Fridays.
Occasionally crossing the ferry on to the other side of the ocean, and quite
honestly at this moment, this is my idea
of THE DREAM. In spite days
of ultimate hunger from earning very little, but quite sufficient for a twenty
something year old. Plus who needs a lot of money as long as you can see the
beach daily. I realize, I need so little to be happy, and nature is one of
those basic needs for me. Plus, I was just in love with the population, the
teams, the office, the drama and the endless surprises daily that always left
us breathless with laughter. I could feed off this. Very few
times did money cross my mind.
But just in the midst of my ultimate joy, my mother
checks in with her words of wisdom. Ambushed with reality check. Perhaps more
than I believed to have needed at that point. My mum is a top achiever in all
sense of the word in her field, and I believe her greatest concern, is that I
could be satisfied with so little and I was still in the
joker phase of life. All I seemed to be looking forward to were traditional dances on
weekends. I easily am a village girl at heart. And I live for Bango and Brasso,
and it is true, I could have easily continued to wait for weddings and maybe funerals as is
the norm of culture, just for one opportunity to dance. So I was outst out
of Mombasa.
Unwillingly.
I was reminded, I have got business pending, my
education, yet to complete, my show back in the city and
perhaps even “my business”, that I had left half way.
Perhaps it was time to go back to exactly where I
stopped. Heartbreaking as it was, but so far I have learned that sometimes
obedience was how to live well and better, because sometimes,
which is often, Mother does know best.
