DEMYSTIFYINGENTREPRENEURSHIP #25 #BECOMING PRO

Esther Neema in Mombasa

I am in Mombasa. Quite having the time of my life. Doing stuff I love. I am with amazing people, and everyday when going home, I get to see the ocean. What more can a girl ask for? I ask self,  truly, why was I stuck in Nairobi suffering? To imagine that at the coast with 4k you can live in the town with decent accommodation. And you could eat samosas at 10 Bob. And you could be anyone.

Now, I had come to just present shows. Started as a reporter, weh. So we go to the field to pick news and we have to come back and summarize it in to something consumable. First all, this is to happen in Swahili!!!
So I speak amazing Swahili, and write it as well, it would be quite lame to pretend I don’t know Swahili. But when it was coming to news, it sounded like a different skill should be used, yaani unahitaji kutafakari. Weh, so what was taking other people 2 minutes was taking me my whole day. Making me question; what is the true meaning of life? Sijui, focus on the news angle . Which angle is that? I was not seeing any angles personally. So I don't know if I was sweating because of the stories or the heat. This place is hot, you sweat even when you are eating, but with the good food nothing stops you from eating. Opportunity to eat is literally everywhere.

Anyhow, as if God heard me, I was made a producer. He realized news is not my portion J. This was huge. I mean did I even imagine it. I had only wanted to do a show, but here I was producing. This turned out to be my exciting experience. A chance. My opinion got heard,  and even my own voice. And above all it was quite the adventure.
Where we go to the beach to shoot a promo. Next we are at a member’s house feasting mahamri na mbaazi. Inevitably I would prosper even physically. But we would all prosper in our growth. There was something beautiful about watching our names go up on the credits, mine written producer. I think I would sit at the edge of the seat and wait for it each time.
It taught me opportunity is in the least likely spaces. Often we are one decision away dream living.
