DEMYSTIFYING ENTREPRENEURSHIP 100- Where it all begun

Esther Neema, Founder Dream Tribe

Leaving school, it never occurred to me that there was a world of entrepreneurship. Having studied PR, the government spokesman, Alfred Mutua, then was my role model. He he he, I know that is a bit funny now. I could see myself in that space, strutting the world as one, perhaps in red high heels, red lipstick and perhaps even a red dress. Well, this vision was until I got my first PR job, and I was bored to death in the afternoons literally having to lift my feet in the air daily not to dose, reaching work just before the 9:00 am, rushing in wearing my heels at the gate since it was a rule. And I remember being so unsettled, and thinking, yo, this can't be it!!!

So the moment I was called for a play, I could never have been happier. The stage was my escape from all my "torture". Every evening, I would go without fail. You feel so elated and so alive. Before long, I was out of PR for stage, and every one thought I was mad. And later, I would start to find myself in the media space, pursuing that which I believed to be me. The first time work would be amazing and still break my heart. To get as many yes'and many no's. To be accepted and equally rejected. I would start to think perhaps is this when I should be a pilot, an engineer, a doctor. Literally, I would have gone for every possible career. You bet I even thought I should be the VC, I think Daystar must have my application, tihi. It was about finding my purpose, and I wondered, how is it that some people fit in to their purpose so naturally and some of us were still in this very big adventure of wanting to do everything. My recommendation in the newsroom was perhaps we should go and cover Music festival for high school kids, and not press conferences. LOL, you bet I didn't last even there.

But one day, in my wandering years, my father, took my brother and I to Nairobi West. Walked us in to the stalls. Literally taking all brochures to show us business. Given speeches on Rich Dad Poor dad. And there I was writing notes, as if this was just the bible. Literally astound by this huge possible world surely. You mean. He told us narrative of his hustler friends who straight outta college went in to business, or didn't get to high school, and seemed like masafara initially, but now could buy the world in a minute. I was sold out, truly wouldn't you be. I knew there and then I would love to start. BUT, nothing in the world would prepare me for the greatest roller-coaster, priceless learning, and perhaps the greatest journey, I couldn't trade.

In this 100 days, I will not only share my story, but equally those of others who inputted knowledge, possibility. 30 days my experience, 30 days inspirational people, and thirty day, #DemystifyingEntrepreneurship and #10DaysStarting-UP, then one day Launching ourselves. Really looking forward.
